Encorepreneur is a community of seasoned professionals who are always seeking new avenues in their careers and personal pursuits, and our programs are designed to encourage those pursuits. With that in mind, we are hosting “CATALYST – An Encorepreneur! Exhibition” starting May 17. CATALYST is an art show featuring works exclusively crafted by our members, showcasing their diverse talents and creative accomplishments. The show will be at Crossroads Art Center, a long-time supporter of Encorepreneur.
Featuring painters, photographers, and a sculptor, CATALYST will offer a wide array of media and styles. Some of the exhibitors are experienced artists. Others have ventured into the world of art as a complementary pursuit alongside their established careers and this is their first exhibit. All are encorepreneurs, and we want to celebrate them.
Join us for an opening reception at 4:00 PM on May 17, or attend the open house that follows sponsored by our host, Crossroads Art Center, from 5-8:00 PM. All encorepreneurs are welcome at both events, but please register if you plan to attend the reception.

JOHN BRYAN John Bryan’s fish paintings have been featured in such publications as Fly Fisherman Magazine and Gray’s Sporting Journal and have been exhibited in solo shows in Richmond, Nashville, New York City and elsewhere. For 22 years John was a faculty/administrator for VCU’s School of the Arts and was later the founding President of CultureWorks, an organization that supports arts and culture in the Richmond region. He was selected as the 2012 national winner of the Selena Roberts Ottum Award that recognizes "an individual who has made a meaningful contribution to his or her local community and who exemplifies extraordinary leadership qualities.”
BART LEVYBart graduated from VCU with a BFA, and pursued a career that included writing, photography, graphic design, and marketing. She returned to making art around 2000 and her interest grew until it became a full-time pursuit. She now paints almost every day. Bart concentrates on landscapes and lately has been moving to more abstract works. Her work in the show is a mix of contemporary impressionistic landscapes and abstract landscapes. Bart’s goal in creating her paintings is to connect our hearts to the heart of the land.
STAN MAUPINStan spent his career as an entrepreneur, co-founding several large companies in the retail, biotechnology, and distribution industries. As a consultant and investment banker, he assisted scores of emerging businesses in raising capital and strategic planning. Stan has also held senior positions in more than a dozen Congressional and statewide political campaigns. He took up photography about 4 years ago in part because his 11-year-old neighbor wanted to see pictures of a lunar eclipse occurring after her bedtime. He specializes in capturing images of the night sky and the Milky Way, as well as unique images of hummingbirds filtering the sunlight with their wings.
ERIC SUNDBERG Eric moved to Richmond from New York and started his career in electronics at age 16 working as an electronic technician for larger companies. In 1979 he founded a local company that morphed into a web-based nationwide automobile electronics repair business. In 2014 Eric founded RVAstem.com, a 501-C3, focused on STEM education program(s) for RVA's underserved children. He recently sold his business and began to pursue his long-time passion for sculpture. He is also a ham radio enthusiast (KA4t) and a licensed pilot. CATALYST is his first show.
PORTER THAYER-SMITHAfter Porter retired from a successful graphic design career in Richmond, she was eager to renew her lifetime passion for the other side of art— painting. From oils to acrylics to cold wax, paper, panels, and canvas––it’s all been a dream come true— to learn the basics of value, composition, mark-making, scratching, sanding, sometimes succeeding, often failing. Always learning something. Porter is still learning every day and refuses to fit into any kind of box that might limit her ability to “see what happens IF…". Porter is delighted to have been invited to Encoreprenuer’s CATALYST Exhibition, and she asked us to thank all those who come to see this show.
